George Orwell's message

Quick Write: My exit project I will be re-writing the ending to 1984 and how it should've ended. I will start off by Winston writing in his diary, he talks about Big Brother and Oceania's society and what went down when they were caught the the Party. It will take you own Winston's and Julia's journals and at this time they will learn what exactly is needed of them to survive in that world.

Anticipating the Argument essay challenge

Quick Write: The video in my opinion was a result in a good ending. Winston did not die and that was all he ever wanted. He never wanted to be vaporized thats the reason why he surprised his wondering mind about the Party and their society.

The Brotherhood!

Quick Write: I do not think I alone can change society because you need people to back you up. Person need to stand together and be united if they wanted a change. However one person can start something to fire up and create spark in the society.

Exit Strategy

Quick Write: I think the ending of this book will be good. Winston will  appear to be released because of his relationship with O'brian and walk free without the worry of the Party or the thought police.

The Politics of Love

Quick Write: I connect more to Julia because of her sly-ful actions. She knows she being watched but can still pull off doing whatever she wants to do, as opposed to Winston he is always scared. I also have some of Winston's trait in thinking about the consequence and being terrified of that.

Final Reflection: Although I understand Julia not taking it serious because she thinks it doesn't matter, Winston is scared of the government and the society.

1984 and the Patriot Act

Quick Write: I do not think that Winston's world would occur today time. We are to strong of people to allow such things to go on. We fight our government as much as we can for fairness. Our country has come to far to turn back, it can only get better.

Writing in Newspeak

Quick Write: Doublethink is basically contrary opinions or beliefs at the same time. Ministry of Truth is really a group of people that work there to alter documents and change date. Also to erase events that can be use to have the citizens question there society and know their identity.

Final Reflection: In today's society their is no such thing as privacy unless your somewhere remote and far away from phones satellites. Everything electronic can be hacked into, computers, phones, tablets.

Big Brother in the News

Quick Write: Love is an emotion that can change someone into a totally different person. It can either be good or bad, and your partner is very influential when it comes to beliefs and things that's acceptable in life. When someone is madly in love sometimes they tend to exclude people out the lives, and it may not be done purposely. Love can open your eyes to see what you don't want in your life no more and what you learned what you do want.

Final Reflection: The future of their society does depend on the proles if they knew what was going on. The Proles were 80% of the population and could be a weapon to the society if used right. However they didn't care about politics, they did't care about the Party. The Proles had no government nor was they being watched, the government did not effect them or interfered with their lives.

Wassup with the Proles?

Quick Write: From the proletarians nothing is to be feared. Left to themselves, they will continue from generation to generation and from century to century, working, breeding, and dying, not only without any impulse to rebel, but without the power of grasping that the world could be other than it is.” I agree with this text because if theres no problem to be seen their will be no way of knowing what needs changing. The Proles live without the Party bothering them and they have not bothered the party. That's why the Party didn't care for

Proles, Sex and the Destruction of Words

Quick Write: "It's a beautiful thing the destruction of words" means that to damaging the meaning of words and to make it sound are evil then what it is suppose to mean.

Final Reflection: "What is the Party's purpose in destroying words?" The purpose of destroying words was to create a whole different word. That eventually the society would not even know the right word on how to express themselves against the Party. They don't want the people to  have an idea and to think and question the society.

History as Construct

Quick Write: Yu don't know whats true or not true but we are taught that everything in history class is true because our future has made it clear thats what had happened. Also because my wonderful teachers Mr. David and Ms. Scott which is our a social studies team.

Final Reflection: History can change based on what we read in 1984. Winston is in charge of changing documents and forging important signatures. Therefore showing us that you can change history and the government does allow life changing changes to protect their government and control the people.

The Hate

Quick Write: Hate is a feeling where you despise something or someone so much you are not able to accept it on any level. Hate is caused by jealousy or resentment and hurt. Hurt can stream into any emotion and amplify their feelings. Hate can be good or bad- to hate on someone can be ones motivation but only if that person is strong minded. Hate can be a breaking point to the weak because they wouldn't know how to handle it. That's a matter of strength and how can you use that to your advantage.

Final reflection: Hate makes people go crazy. It gets you paranoid and it eventually wears your body done by having such a negative raw emotion in side of you.

Conquering the Assignment

Quick Write: I feel more confident in re-writing my argumentative essay now because I feel more comfortable in replacing and adding better information. In class for me I used other students techniques as a inspiration to my writing and how organized I need to fix my essay.

Power Through Psychology

Quick Write: 1984 is a Utopian society and the government controls the people. They have been broken down and convinced that whatever the government says is true

Reflection: I think that the apple commercial was very scary. Apple wanted people to believe that the book 1984 and the reality of 1984 will be similar because of the technology that apple had promoted during the super bowl. The people was anticipating the outcome of how the Macintosh would affect society as the book 1984.

Let's get (Re)started

Quick write: "New York State Regents do not determine your intelligence" I think this is important because the regents determine whether or not you graduate. This specific kind of test can hold you back in life because the government says so. The government doesn't know you as an individal and so they would not know what your capable of doing.

Peer Editing Our Argument Essays

Quick Write: In my essay I know that I need help with the way I incorporate outside information and also sequential order.

Literature through the Lens of Mindset

Quick Write: Villains are motivated by disappointment, usually by society or loved ones. Those kinds of people have a fixed mindset because they let their

How do we interpret "all people are created equal" through the lens of mindset?

When having a fixed mindset you don't believe everyone is equal when it comes to intelligence, they believe if you have it you have it, and if you don't you don't. However a growth mindset understands that you are equal with the same opportunity you can get better, you can be just as smart as the next person.

  • Challenges are what make life interesting. Overcoming them is what makes life meaningful. --Joshua J. Marine
I agree with Joshua's statement because life in general is interesting however dealing with the things life throws at you and makes it meaningful. You apprecitate life more when you can overcome somethng that was once so difficult. There is a certain proudness and respect given when you understand to diffuclty and what kind of persistamce and will power someone will need in order to achieve your results.

New Rules!

Technology was much more advance then present day. The t.v monitors were basically camera's from both ends, something like how we can face time and video chat with our phone but it's through a t/v screen.

Final Reflection: When first stepping into class and my teacher was so stern with me I immediately turned on my defensive mood. I did not appreciate the coldness she was giving me early in the morning for no reason, I thought. When i sat my paper down I read the first line and immediately understood what was going on and went along with it.

1984; Through the eyes of 1984

"It is impossible to change history. You can not change the past" The past means time before what is called present. So therefore we can only only affect our past by living present. History is set in stone and all we can do is learn from it, wheither its your own or someone else's. We can use history as a way of avoiding the same problems or doing things differently for a different outcome.

Mindset Reflection

Summary Of Chapter 2

In Chapter 2 the author is comparing a fixed mindset and a growth mindset. She explains what exactly qualifies of having the two kinds of mindset. Mindsets are just a person personal belief on how they view the world and how they should carry on in regards to learning. The world is divided into two type of people; learners and non-leaners. With a fixed mindset a person is concerned with mistakes and failures. "Fixed" traits is about ones success and being able to prove their smart and talented, basically validating themselves. Where as a growth mindset person has continuous changing qualities, you stretch your to learn new things. To test someone's way of thinking just ask "What would be more rewarding, success in your comfort zone and validation or taking on challenges that stimulate you mind and pushes you to become better?"

Reading "Harrison Bergeron"

Quick Write: I don't think as of today we are truly equal with the rights of men and woman. However, I believe we will get there it is difiantly a process but us women today are equiped to stand up and level the plain feild between the two genders.

Final reflection: During 2081 their mindset is a fixed mindset because their stay with what work for everyone. Their saying no one is truly equal and how in order to make equality stand true you have you dumb people down. Harrison is very intelligent and is a threat to their society so allowing one man to have that muchintelligence with everyone being handicap is their disadvantage.
I decided to create Adam and Eve because I believe this is th time when literally everything was perfect. There was no evil in the world yet and nothing to corrupt the minds yet.

Text Coding

Quick write:
I believe that intelligence can not be measured by a test, one reason is because there are different type of intelligence to be categorized. By giving a test to see how intelligent person is, its only using their memory as a tool. Some people can memorize thing very well while others learn the concept. Those both can be measured as intelligent on a test because it they will end up with the same answer. However the difference is that while the people that memorize get the answer they won't have the answer to why or how did it get there.

Reflection:
Memorization is the lowest form of knowledge because memory can fail and your left with being confused.

Staking our Claims

Quick Write: My personal opinion on mindset is that unless your mentally retarded, anyone can have a growth mindset. Your not limited to certain knowledge or customs that you have previously been exposed to. I believe that it's one's own pride and selfishness that can hinder you from taking advantage from life and what it has to offer.

Important claim is that achievement is hard work, Mozart took 10 year for his work to be appreciate and admire his work today.

Fixed or growth mindset?

At this point in my life I have a growth mindset, however because I have a such a strong personalty I am still in a limbo with a fixed mindset. Reason in certain i still have a fixed mindset is because of pride. I have so much pride that its a set back sometimes that it doesn't allow me certain things to do and accept. As much as I can love someone I won't accept disrespect even after an apology. People sometime forget disrespect, there is no expiration on disrespect and it's something I won't forget. I hold grudges that only become apparent when I see a person.

In the video I am most similar to Kenneth and Arielle they push themselves as do I.

Reflection: One way a teacher can be supportive is by connecting with the student. Tell them about your young days and things they may have struggled  with and how they overcame it. One way a teacher show they don't care for a student is by not acknowledging them whether that's giving them props or not caring to indulge yourself in a student.

Mindset

If I could change one characteristics about myself as a student I would change be being detached. I am so distant with both students and teachers. That is a good and bad thing, good because I wont have side conversation in class and always quiet. Bad because I don't like interacting with students much less teachers, that goes hand in hand with me being hardheaded. I am so stubborn mostly because I was the last child and first girl of my family, so everyone spoiled me. Now that I'm older I'm not as spoiled and stubborn as I use to be but it is apparent that I play drums to my own beat. No one will speed up my process, not saying I purposely defy teachers its just if I don't see the logic and their are loop-holes then there is no need for it to be mentioned to me. I however do change my mind when i see called for it and what makes much more sense then what I am accustomed to but those two I would change if that was never my personality, I would. Changing those two things I would be like the perfect student :).

Do you think babies are born with a growth or a fixed mindset? Explain.

Babies are born with growth mindset, if they didn't they wouldn't learn further to understand anything else. Babies are curious they wonder what direction a sound comes from. They wonder if they cry would your face appear. That's the beauty of a growth mindset coursity is ones best friend, they can get you in trouble but u will always learn from the lesson. One example is being a kid mommy ell you don't touch the iron because its hot, Your curious to see what is hot and bad is it, now u don't learn until you get a burn and cry your eyes out. Now you know hot things are not meant to be touch but what about crayons getting off the paper and end up as art on our wall. All these things is the purity of being a baby or kid your still able to learn.

Define Grit

When I think about a time I failed, I think about one of my classes. I worked really hard that semester to find out my teacher gave me 60, I went crazy. I went straight to her class and demanded she fix it or there will be problems. When it comes to grades and what I work for, I don't like surprises. So if I know I worked for a certain grade, I expect it.

Do you have grit? Why or why not? How did you get it or how did you lose it? What steps do you need to take to develop it? How can school and more specifically this class help you develop your grit. Are you even interested in developing it?

Grit is passion and perseverance for long term goals. Its having stamina and sticking with one's future. With that being said I believe I have grit.I have enough drive to always push forward. Gaining grit is all will power, its only there if u want it to be there. There are many reason on how people develop grit by constant failure and wanting more out of life. Some are taught there is no other way to be, there is no choice but to keep going and keep striving for the best. There are also people unbeknowest to them that certain situation calls for you to toughen up, because people rely on you to be the best you can be.

Then there are people that are broken, they may have fallen off emotionally that they don't want to strive for more/ Usually its a broken spirit within that can't push you to get back up. Example if your support system such as family suddenly becomes non-supportive, study shows that you can fall off the wagon- if you depend on them enough for them to make that kind effect on you. That goes back to the will power, are you strong enough to be your on support system? Can you motivate yourself? Grit is the strength of your character and that can be built up or broken. School helps the people who have a growth mindset. Students that always wan o do better and improve are much grit-ter. They want to know more, learn more. Excel in what they have become good at, and even things they don't understand but want to get it. That's why gritter people go further in life.

Train your brain

Quick write :

"You can train your brain just as you can increase your physical power with exercise."

I strongly agree with this statement. The intuitive sense is that the brain is like a muscle, and if you use it and exercise it, it will get stronger, and if you don’t, it will get weaker. Its been tested that mice raised in cages with more toys will have more brain cells, and children raised in richer environments will do better on cognitive tests. How can one simply train their brain? is there any specific way to make your brain stronger? While training your brain is a purley mental? or is there physical trainning as well?
